HEADCANONS.
Assorted headcanons that I'll apply to threads until I'm otherwise debunked by canon or people would rather I didn't.
- Genji was not a Very Chill Dude in the first iteration of Overwatch. It took him a while to get anywhere near chill, honestly. He had a tendency of lashing out at people because of his pain, and he wasn't 'friends' with any of his fellow operatives.
- Leading from the first point, while he never got to a friend level with anyone, he wound up relatively close (AKA: somewhere resembling normal human behavior instead of asshole mode all the time) with Reinhardt, McCree (based off of the graduation photo that Winston has in the Recall short) and Mercy. Before her disappearance, he had begun to warm up to Ana, and her 'death' hurt him. He had developed a deep, if somewhat grudging, respect for both Jack and Gabe. Everyone else he was relatively neutral toward.
- He has a very vague idea of who 76 is under the mask, but without further evidence to back it up, he leaves the idea by the wayside mostly. AKA: I will thread Genji as being unaware that 76 is Jack Morrison by default. I'm not a huge stickler about this, however, and will flow with whatever tone the thread is taking. Naturally, he is also unaware that Gabriel Reyes is Reaper.
- Genji is capable of summoning his dragon without his sword, it's just Not A Great Idea to do so. The sword gives the dragon a focus when it enters Genji, helping him control it, and without it Genji will enter a berserker state and just kind of wreck shit around him for an unspecified amount of time. It is also EXTREMELY physically taxing on Genji to use the dragon in this way, because he has no reliable way to end the state and separate himself from the dragon; he runs a very real risk of overheating his body or blacking out from the stress of housing the dragon for too long.
- Genji has taken up the habit of taking photos and recording video. He calls it 'collecting memories'; it's something of a leftover coping habit, a 'just in case' for when times get rough and he may have trouble remembering the good points like he once did when he'd first gotten his new body. A list of moments he's collected throughout threads with people is listed below.
Memories Genji has collected:
- Two pictures of 76; one where he's climbing up a wall, and another where he's lying sprawled on the roof. (mylawn)
- Several pictures of Mercy from a trip to Hanamura they took together. (cadeuces)
- A couple pictures of McCree at a carnival, along with a video. One picture is McCree looking extremely disgruntled with his head through a photo cut out stand, the other is a photo with Genji. The video is McCree absolutely killing it at the shooting gallery. (twelveoclock)
- A locked album entitled Death and The Family, feat. Reaper and his murder of crows. (gr1m)
